WHAT A TOURNAMENT!!!
We have had some of the most exciting quizzes in recent memory in the trophy round. Absolutely amazing.
Quiz number 42 though, was a nail-biter, an on-the-edge-of-your-seater, an absolute heart-stopper.
Manteca had the definite edge coming out of the ten-point questions being ahead 75 to 5. They continue strongly until question twelve with Santino getting questions 9 and 10 but then interrupting and missing 11 and 12. This put the score at 95/24 in Manteca's favor. Jordan from Alto hit and missed 13 and Santino got 14 to put it at 135/35. Santino interrupted and missed the next two questions and Jordan Grindle got 17 to tighten the score to 115/95 for Manteca. To make things even more tense, to this point there had been two contests granted, one from each team.
Jordan hit and perfectly executed question 18 to put them on top for the first time in the quiz 125/115. Santion responded with a FABULOUS hit on 19 but missed it and Alto got the reread which to all intents and purposes sealed the quiz for Alto. HOWEVER, Santino contested and the judges concurred that it was an invalid question and it WAS THROWN OUT!!! On the replacement question, Jordan hit but slightly misinterpreted the question and missed it. Manteca got the reread and sealed the quiz. Andrea Grindle hit and correctly answered question 20 which brought them within 5 points but was not quite enough to push them over the edge.
The end result was Manteca - 145, Alto - 140... Santino scored 70 points as the 2nd highest scorer of the game and Andrea received a gold medal by scoring 120 points.

We very nearly have a round 2 champion!
.jpg)
After a full day of great quizzing we have nearly wrapped up round 2... nearly. Tomorrow shall tell the tale.
Shortly after beginning the quizzing in room 1, teams began to establish their dominance and two teams especially began to make their moves. DeQuincy, LA 1 and Lake Isabella, CA both won three consecutive quizzes to meet each in the struggle for fifth place and the chance to move on to play Alto, TX. It was an epic battle coming down to the 30 point questions which Lake Isabella won for their 4th straight victory. This will pit them against the team which conquered them at their quiz, last year's ABQNT champion, Alto, TX.
.jpg)
Coming out of room 2 was Calhoun, LA, who fought their way bravely past Concord, CA, in quiz ending in a difference of FIVE POINTS to also get in 5th place. Their quiz tomorrow will be against Manteca, CA, who has been sitting since Monday eagerly awaiting their chance to rejoin the fray. Also in room 2 we had a very exciting thing happen!!! We had a PLATINUM MEDAL WINNER!!!!!! Yes, Benjamin Copeland won the much coveted and seldom obtained, platinum medal which requires 160 points and a perfect quiz (no misses or fouls).
So, that leaves us with our undefeated team, Columbus IN, Buford GA 1, Alto TX, Manteca CA, Calhoun LA and Lake Isabella CA as the remaining contenders. Tomorrow will be exciting to say the least.

WE HAVE A ROUND 1 CHAMPION!!!
.jpg)
Quiz 22, the finals of round 1 was between Buford, GA 1 and Columbus, IN. It was a quiz worthy of its title as it was a very nicely-quizzed game.
Evansville dominated the 10 point questions with Bethany Strevil getting 6 of the 8 questions with precision. The 20s were back and forth until question 14 with Buford getting 3 of first five 20s and Caleb Strevil getting the other 2. Buford however, gave the 3 out of the next 4 questions to Evansville as rereads which pushed the score to 185/50 for Columbus and put the game on ice.
Thusly was decided the fate of round 1 and determined our round 1 champion.

Room 2 update...
Quiz #27:
The Estacada, OR / DeQuincy LA 2 quiz was very tight in the 10s but was a bit more lopsided in the 20s and 30s. Coming out of the 10s it was 35/30 in Estacada's favor and was 55/30 at the end of question 10. Then Logan from DeQuincy got inspired. He got, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 ,16 AND 17 AND QUIZZED OUT!!!! Amazing performance. His teammate then picked up 19 and 20 to seal the win with 240 points.
Quiz #28:
Cullman, AL / Buford, GA 2 quiz was very well played by both teams but Buford's performance was marked by their very impressive hit to miss ratio. They correctly answered 12 questions and only missed 1 question the entire quiz. The quiz ended with Buford winning with 205 points

Day 2 of the Senior Tournament
We had a great time of prayer and worship from 8:00 to 9:00 this morning before the first session of quizzing took place.
In room 1 we had a couple of quizzes but the highlights had to have come from the first between Lake Charles, LA 1 and Evansville, IN 1. It was a back and forth match in the 10-pointers ending with a slight lead (60-55) in Evansville's favor. Elle Simmons then decided to make things interesting. She got question, 9, 10, 11 and 12 to pull their team ahead 115 to 50. Unfortunately, three consecutive misses by Lake Charles along with a correct answer by Amanda on Evansville put the score at 110 Evansville, 80 Lake Charles. Elle got 17, Amanda got 18, and then tragedy struck. Amanda hit a PERFECT hit on a CR-Quotation question and made a slight error in the quote which was repeated by Lake Charles. Both teams having missed 19, question 20 became the pivotal point of the quiz. Elle Simmons hit AND PERFECTLY ANSWERED QUESTION 20, QUIZZING OUT AND TYING THE GAME, PUTTING IT INTO OVERTIME!!! The overtime was exciting with Amanda from Evansville getting question 21 and Lake Charles hitting and missing a four-part question which sealed the quiz for Evansville. It was truly an amazing sight to behold.
Quiz 24 was between DeQuincy and Moss Bluff, two Louisianna teams who had no doubt met before. The game was back and forth and came down to DeQuincy needing the correctly answer the LAST FIVE QUESTIONS TO WIN!!! AND THEY DID!!! The ending score was 135-120, DeQuincy.

Final Day 1 Room 2 Update!
Click HERE for the detailed details of the first day of quizzing.
What a great first day of Bible Quizzing we've had in Tulsa, OK at ABQNT! Spirits, scores, and fun times are all soaring high! Columbus, IN played Alto, TX and will be moving on from our session to play for the Round 1 Championships! Congratulations to the Streevals from Columbus, IN!
The level of quizzing has been incredible, so far, this tournament! Very few games have gone by without an individual scoring over 150 points. We've had at least one quizzer in a medal ceremony every quiz. One young lady was only one question away from receiving a Platinum metal, which is a perfect quiz and 160 points! Nearly all of our quizzes have been close quizzes that came down to the thirty point questions with many of them being decided during the last question!
We are anxious to see who will be our winner for Round 1 and how the matrix will fall out for Round 2 and produce our final games. If you're not here in Tulsa, you're missing it! Make plans to attend next year, but not as a spectator, as a quizzer! We're having a great time of fellowship, intense quizzing and the Blessing of handling God's Word!

In room 1 there was a strong showing of talented quizzers who have undoubtly spent nearly sleepless nights in their devotions to the word of God. Visions of verse cards dance in their heads each time they close their eyes and charting of every imaginable spectrum of quizdom haunts their wakeless hours. Truly they are a dedicated bunch of young people.
Buford, GA 1 emerged as the victor of the room and will be greeted with Columbus, IN, at 11:00am tomorrow.
In a slight departure from the norm, we will be beginning round 2 BEFORE the championship round even fully completes so we can more fully highlight the championship of round 1.
Great quizzing was performed today but will no doubt be outshined by tomorrow.

The first quiz in room 1 was a great start to the 2009 ABQNT with Manteca, CA, overcoming Estacada, OR, winning DOUBLE GOLD MEDALS in the process. Both Santino and Lauren scored over 120 points which was enough to push them over the first hurdle.

Quiz 2 between Cullman, AL, and Sacramento, CA, was neck and neck until the end when Sacramento prevailed.
Quiz 3 was a dynamic struggle pitting DeQuincy, LA 1 and Buford, GA 1. It was anyone's game to win or lose until the 30 pointers were the struggle continued until question 19 when Buford, GA, the recipient of a reread on a great hit which missed by a hair by DeQuincy was able to ice the quiz.
We have now broken for lunch and will be recommencing quizzing at 1:00PM.
